About Rosie

Rosie Schellenberg is an award-winning filmmaker who has been working in television for twenty years and whose films have been shown in the UK and around the world.

Rosie’s directing career began at the BBC when she became one of the founding directors of the flagship weekly arts show, The Culture Show. She then directed two films in the critically acclaimed BBC Four series The Wonderful World of Albert Khan, based on a unique collection of early colour photographs and archive film. Rosie then made 50 Years of the Today Show, in which she interviewed the interviewers and covered one of the most controversial stories of the day, The Hutton Enquiry.

Rosie went on to produce and direct numerous films across history and arts for BBC One, Two and Four. In collaboration with writer and broadcaster Stephen Smith, she directed and DOP-ed two light-hearted history programmes: Fig Leaf: The Biggest Cover Up in History and How to Get Ahead at Medieval Court covering the first flowering of English creativity during the time of Richard II. She also made a one-off film co-presented by Lucy Worsley and Helen Castor about the world’s grandest palace, Versailles.

On leaving the BBC, Rosie moved to Wall to Wall where she worked on three films for the two-time BAFTA winning celebrity genealogy series, Who Do You Think You Are?. Her film featuring Daniel Radcliffe, was one of the highest rated factual programmes on BBC One in 2019.

At the same time Rosie began making Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace, a feature length doc for ITV which harnessed new DNA technology to help people abandoned as babies find birth relatives. The show was recommissioned as two-parter which Rosie Series Produced and Directed. Garnering 5 star reviews and record-breaking audiences of over 5 ½ million viewers, this series was nominated for RTS and Edinburgh TV Awards and won a BAFTA in the Features Category. Rosie went on to Series Produce and Direct two further series of Born Without Trace.
